16 inch Traditional Cast Iron Wok

Best wok we've ever owned!
The wok: We've been using this wok for well over a year and have been so very satisfied with the product. First, it is cast iron, but it is not what most of us think of for cast iron, it is not thick, heavy and a pain to move around the stove and kitchen. Rather, it is quite the opposite. The wok is lightweight in heft, but certainly not performance.

It requires seasoning upon arrival. You will receive instructions with two alternatives as to how to season the wok. We used the oven seasoning process and it worked like a charm. The wok was beautifully seasoned for our first use. It also must be maintained to keep the perfect season, but just like your grandmothers cast iron, if you follow the golden rules (wash with water, no soap, no dishwasher, and a thin coat of oil after every use) then it maintains the non-stick attributes beautifully.

We considered lots of woks prior to purchasing this one. We were just about to purchase a fine cast iron wok from a...

Ancient style wok
This wok reminded my wife, who is Chinese, of her childhood. It's cast iron and once seasoned turns out authentic tasting feasts of Chinese food. Just beware it is not flat bottomed!!!

Looking at this wok at first glance it appeared ok. I loved the appearance of the old style wok and its simplicity. Then after looking closer I noticed a spot inside the wok on the bottom, a spot about 1" in diameter where the top surface coating had been ground off with a grinder. It appears that it is cast metal underneath with a thin top coating of what the supplier must consider to be cast iron. You can see brush marks as if the coating had been brushed or wiped on with a rag and then baked onto the metal. It is a very hard coating that has the appearance of a non stick material. In their defense, it may be iron in a powder form mixed with a bonding agent and brushed on. Then baked at a high temp. I have no idea what it is. This review is only to help anyone who is expecting typical cast iron to be prepared for disappointment. It is not cast iron as we are use to. And I don't like teflon non stick surfaces. Not only for health reasons but for long lasting quality as well. This...
